Jean-Luc Gerner – Area Director, SLS

Jean-Luc Gerner is the Area Director of CCSDS' Space Link Services Area (SLS).

Jean-Luc Gerner is the Area Director of CCSDS' Space Link Services Area (SLS). In 1986, Mr. Gerner joined the European Space Agency, at the ESTEC Technical Centre of Noordwijk, the Netherlands. He was first in charge of TT&C systems design and development and supported the Science, telecom and Earth Observation programmes of ESA. In 1992, he was nominated head of the TT&C and Radio Navigation Section in the Technical Directorate of ESA. He is currently also in charge of the Standardisation and Frequency Management Office of the Technical Directorate and is chairing the Standards Approval Board (STAB) for Telemetry and Telecommand.

Mr Gerner is member of the Space Frequency Coordination Group (SFCG) and of CCSDS since 1987.

Before joining ESA, Mr Gerner worked in industry from 1975 to 1986, first with Thomson-CSF, now Thales for mobile communication systems and then with Alcatel Space for SAR radars and TT&C transponders.

Mr. Gerner graduated from the ENSEEIHT (Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Electronique, Electrotechnique, Informatique et Hydraulique de Toulouse) in 1971 and from the University of Toulouse (PhD) in 1974.
