Takahiro Yamada is Deputy Area Director of the
Systems Engineering Area (SEA).
Dr. Yamada is the supervisor of the Data Handling Group at
the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS) of
Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). He has been in
charge of development of both onboard and ground data
systems for several science missions of ISAS, including the
Space Flyer Unit (a retrievable space platform) and Hayabusa
(an asteroid sample return mission). He also has been
actively involved in the standardization activities of CCSDS
and edited more than a dozen Recommendations and Reports
published by CCSDS, including the Recommendations and
Reports on the restructured space link protocols. He was the
chairman of the
Systems Architecture Working Group
of CCSDS from May 2003 until July 2005. He won
the Technical Merit Award from CCSDS in 2002. He received
the B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of
Tokyo, all in electrical engineering.
