Gilles Moury Gilles Moury – Deputy Area Director, SLS

Gilles Moury is the Deputy Area Director of the CCSDS Space Link Services Area (SLS). In 1985, Mr. Moury joined the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales, the national space agency of France (CNES), at the Toulouse space center. At CNES, he became responsible for the development of on-board data processing and storage equipment for satellites, like the Solid State Recorder of the SIGMA mission, the Image Compression Module of the Clementine, Cassini and five other planetary exploration missions, the image compression algorithm and equipments of SPOT5 and HELIOS2 missions.

In 1997, the French National Academy of Sciences awarded Mr. Moury the Kodak-Pathé-Landucci prize for his contributions to image compression for space missions. He lectures in data compression and satellite on-board data handling at various French engineering schools. He has co-authored more than thirty publications and communications on these subjects and holds patents in the field. In the domain of TM/TC communication protocols, he has been a consultant to major international satellite operators like EUTELSAT, INTELSAT and EUMETSAT.

In addition to his active role within the CCSDS, Mr. Moury currently heads the On-Board Data Handling section within the technical directorate at CNES in Toulouse.

Mr. Moury graduated from the Ecole Polytechnique in 1983 and from the Nationale Supérieure de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace (Sup’Aéro) in 1985.
